Visual journaling

A year ago, I started visual journaling to capture my emotions of becoming a father using water colors and ink in a moleskine journal. I created one journal entry a day for 2 months. This is a compilation of that effort. Check out the animated archive I created by tagging the journal entries based on format and content.
I've journaled all my life in plain old handwriting, but seldom re-read them. But this is the one journal I always return to remind myself of my creative potential.

Cartographic Styling

A map is the ultimate graphic story-telling tool. A well-designed map always makes my eyes glaze. Can I motorcycle through that desert? Paraglide from that hill top?
I taught myself to style maps using MapBox Studio. I love sharpening my CSS chops in CartoCSS to render maps that are unique, beautiful and have such huge potential for story-telling.
The map below is my homage to 19th century maps that so beautifully combined illustration, copperplate engraving, varied italic serif typefaces into a leather-parchment kind of look. I am hoping to overlay data of historic immigration patterns by land and sea.
